Top Ten Tuesday #3 - Ten Books I Recommend The Most

First, I'd like to thank the wonderful girls over at The Broke And The Bookish for hosting this highly addictive weekly meme.

Top ten books I recommend the most?  This is the TTT I've been waiting for since I jumped on this meme's bandwagon!  Mwahahahaha!!! *cue low-budget maniacal laughter*

Ahem.  Okay.  So I should probably get to the actual list, then....  For this one, I'm going to work backward, 10 - 1.  A true countdown, fanfare supplied by your imaginative minds.

10.) "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson - Mistborn won't appeal to everyone, but it's one of my top-recommended epic fantasy novels.  A must-read for fans of the genre.

9.) "Warm Bodies" by Isaac Marion - This one probably won't appeal to everyone either, but if you're willing to overlook a cheesy premise for fantastic writing that truly has the power to change your way of thinking, read Warm Bodies.

8.) "Interview With The Vampire" by Anne Rice - Every Twilight fan needs to read this.  Learn your roots.  Lestat was the sexy, sensual vampire I grew up with, and he'll always be number 1 in my heart.  His best feature; he doesn't sparkle.

7.) "Fever" Series by Karen Marie Moning - Okay, okay, this isn't technically a book. It's five.  This is the problem I'm faced with whenever I'm recommending the Fever series, because the first book, Darkfever,...it wasn't that great.  So I can't recommend it by itself.   But the pure awesomeness of every other book in this series more than makes up for it.  Jericho Barrons.  That name should be trademarked to mean "One sexy expletive."

6.)"The Sky Is Everywhere" by Jandy Nelson - The writing is beautiful, the angst is real, and the pain is raw.  The romance is a bit too good to be true, but hey, that's why I'll always love my fictional crushes more.

5.) "Wintergirls" by Laurie Halse Anderson - If you want to feel your worst emotions well to the surface, ride this roller-coaster.  It lets you off in a place of hope and reminds you what it means to be fragile, to be human, and to be alive.

4.) "Anna And The French Kiss" by Stephanie Perkins -  This book is just so much fun!  It isn't super profound or emotional, but damned if you can find a better way to spend an afternoon.

3.) "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green - If everyone had the same outlook on life as Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, the world would be a better place.  Sad and ironic, funny and romantic, The Fault In Our Stars hits every note on the spectrum of emotion at least once.

2.) "The Eye Of The World" by Robert Jordan - Another that won't appeal to everyone, but was one of the building-block books of my youth.  This is the book that showed me a different kind of fantasy than Harry Potter.  I can pinpoint the exact moment I started to stray out of the YA genre to when I picked this book off of a shelf at Target.

Aaaaand, the one we've all been waiting for, the creme de la creme of books, the one whose identity is burning a hole of curiosity through you, the one you want me to just shut up and reveal already;

Okay, for real now

1.) "Daughter Of Smoke And Bone" by Laini Taylor - As soon as I saw this week's list, Daughter Of Smoke And Bone popped into my head like a blazing beacon.  I can't possibly say enough about this book, so I won't even try.  Just...read it.  Shut up and read it.  Now.  And have the sequel, Days Of Blood And Starlight, ready, 'cuz you're gonna need it.

Now, there are the obvious two that I left out; Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.  Everyone reading this list has probably already read both series', so I didn't waste a spot on them.  But yeah, of course.  If for some crazy reason you need my voice added to the gigantic roar of love for these two, I highly recommend them to the four people left in the world who hasn't read them.

So, which elite books make your Top Ten cut?  Share in the comments!

    1. I know! Sanderson is definitely my favorite epic fantasy author to come out in the last decade. The whole Mistborn series had me reeling!

Thanks so much, and I'm heading over to check out your list now. :)

  2. Warm Bodies is my favourite book so far this year! I'm finally seeing the movie tomorrow night, and I absolutely cannot wait. Great list :)

    1. I know, wasn't it just fantastic? It blew me away with the writing! The movie was really good, though it doesn't compare with the book. Nicholad Hoult, though, was born to be R.

Thanks, Tonile! I'll go check out your list now. :)

    1. TFiOS is actually the book that turned me on to contemporary, and Anna continued the streak lol. Don't worry, you'll love it.

  5. I agree with Interview with the Vampire! Anna and the French Kiss is one I have on request at the library and am waiting for it as well as The Fault in Our Stars.

    1. Ooh you'll love them, I promise. Those two and Wintergirls are probably my favorite contemporary novels ever.

      Thanks so much, Jessica! :D

  6. Haha, awesome list! I feel so bad, there's so many I haven't read. But Mistborn is definitely on my list. If I haven't read this by the end of the year you have permission to hit me. And I do want to check out The Eye of the World at some point as well.. just.. that series... so long... I also should add The Sky Is Everywhere to my list... hmm. Your number one pick was totally obvious :P but understandable.

    1. Lol I'll remember that promise. :p The first half is kind of just typical epic fantasy, but the second half gets better. And the end is like a huge ball of woah. All of the endings of the Mistborn books are like that, it's why I love the series.

WoT is definitely a series that takes a huge investment from its readers. I actually tell friends just getting into it to wikipedia books 8, 9 and 10 and skip reading them, not a whole lot happens. But the good books are amazing so it's worth it, I think. And you should definitely add The Sky Is Everywhere! The writing is so good.

      Obvious, moi? Preposterous, I say!

  7. Great list. The big build up for your no 1 spot was totally wasted on my as I soon as I saw this weeks theme, I knew what yours would be. Still a great build up though, you sure knew how to draw it out, you should host a cheesy quiz show!!
TFIOS, yes I know I will get to it. Anna and the French Kiss, the cover keeps putting me off! Interview with a Vampire - adore it. Warm Bodies - yes, agreed. The Eye of the World....must check that one out.

    1. You guys are killing the suspense I so brilliantly built up! >:o

Anna's cover has nuthin' on what's inside of it. Seriously, it's one of the most straight-up fun and romantic books you can possibly read. TFiOS will seriously deplete your tissue supply, but Anna will have the opposite effect.

You've got to let me know what you think of those books when you get around to reading them!

  8. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one of my favourite series! It's absolutely amazing. Bought a copy of my sister and she loved it - she's not even a reader.

I think it's interesting what you say about the Fever series. I've only read the first book and wasn't in love - couldn't work out what everyone loves it so much. I'll give the second book a try :)

    1. I remember getting DOSAB because two friends said if I only read one book, it should be that one. I had absolutely no idea when I ordered it just how obsessed I'd become with that story! So you get huge brownie points for loving it, too haha.

Fever gets so much better!!!! I really didn't like Darkfever enough to continue the series, but so many people were promising me that it gets better that I decided to give Bloodfever a try. One of the best reading decisions I made. It gets seriously addictive, and a lot less shallow.

  10. AHHHHHHH YOU HAVE THE WHEEL OF TIME ON YOUR LIST! Have you read all the books? I am waiting until A Memory of Light gets released on Kindle (I think the date is April 15th). I am seriously crazy with excitement to have the conclusion to this story. I agree that it's probably not for everyone but it was also one of the first epic fantasy stories I read and I just love it. Great list overall!

Thanks for stopping our TTT :)

    1. I haven't read A Memory Of Light yet and it's killing me!!!! But I have an obsessive need to own all my books, and hardcover is just too expensive, so I'm waiting (impatiently) for paperback. I'm full of bittersweet excitment, because I've spent the las ten years devouring those books and waiting for the next one, I don't want it to end!

Thanks, Nicole! Makes me happy to find another WoT nerd on here. :D

  11. lol Love the dramatic reveal of your list! So exciting!

I've read The Fault in Our Stars and Interview with a Vampire, but nothing else. How lame. I really want to check out Warm Bodies though (and I want to see the movie, but haven't. Ugh. So much to do!) and I really must get myself to read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone. That, and the Cinder series, and the Divergent series, and all 800 other books out there being recommended but I haven't yet read. The tragic life of a book lover :P

    1. Finally, someone appreciates the big reveal! Haha.

Ah, that's not that big of a deal. 2 out of 10 isn't bad, not with all the books out there being thrown at us from friends and fellow bloggers. But seriously. Read Daughter Of Smoke And Bone. I have an irrational love for that story.

      Thanks, Asti!

  13. I'm not surprised about your number 1 at all. AND YOU'RE WELCOME, KELLY! You know I bugged you to read it until you did...and now because of me, you're obsessed. You owe me. <3

    :D

Love your list. Especially Interview with the Vampire, Wintergirls, Warm Bodies, Anna and the French Kiss, and TFiOS (which, if I remember correctly, I made you read two or three of those as well...hmmm... *waggles eyebrows*) But, you did have me read Wintergirls- so we're partially even there.

    1. Lol you and Taylory, so I can't give you all the credit, missy. :p Though you did recommend it first.

Anna and TFiOS came from you, but not Warm Bodies! You just beat me to reading it, and I still hate you a little for that. *pouts* But when you finally read the Fever series and fall in love (lust) with Barrons, we'll be sooooo much more even. I'm patiently waiting. So read it. Now. Go. Hurry.

  14. So many good choices here; just about every one I've either read or is on mt TBR. I loved Warm Bodies; both the book and the movie. Great comment on Interview - "Learn your roots." LOL! And yet, I've yet to read the book, although I have seen the movie. Hope that counts for something!

The Fault In Our Stars..you said it perfectly. This should have made my Top Ten, but I covered the tissue spectrum with The Book Thief instead.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

    1. The movie counts somewhat since it was really good. But read the book!!! Anne Rice has such a sensual, almost erotic way of writing her vampires that is just...incredible. Technically, the roots would probably be Bram Stoker's Dracula, but Lestat is so much prettier lol.

I've seen The Book Thief on so many TTT lists this week! I did love it, but not quite enough to crack the top ten. Top fifteen, maybe.

Thanks so much for visiting me back, Stephanie! <3

  16. Awesome list girly! I've read and love all of these, with the exception of Interview With a Vampire (which I've meant to read for so long now) and Warm Bodies.

And I saw Pixie's comment, and yes, we BOTH get credit for making you read some of those lol.

    1. You haven't read the good Fever books yet, Taylory, so no bragging about reading this list until you're just as obsessed with Barrons as I am! >:o Even though you can't have him. He's mine. You can have V'lane.

Haha I love it how you guys fight over the right to brag about who turned me on to what books. :p You two definitely played a big part in breaking me out of my 2012 reading slump, so brag away.

As you may or may not know, life is eating up way too much of my spare time right now, so pretty please don't hate me if it takes me a few days to get back to your wonderful comments. I read each and every one from my phone, and they always make my day. <3
